Lesson 9 · 10 min
Authority in Christ
What you can command and what you cannot.
Overview
Theme: Authority.
Key Scripture. "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy." - Luke 10:19
What this step is about. Every believer stands in the authority of Jesus. Not their own. His. That means the enemy has no legal standing over the ground Jesus has taken. You do not beg for what has already been given. You stand in it.
Why it matters. People either overstate their authority and get weird, or understate it and get run over. Jesus is clear - He has authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He shares that authority with His people to do His work. Knowing what you can command and what you cannot is not optional. It is how you fight without going off the rails.
What Scripture says. Ephesians 1:20-22 says God seated Jesus at His right hand, far above all rule and authority, and put all things under His feet. Ephesians 2:6 says you are seated with Him. James 4:7 - submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Submission comes first. Then authority is real.
Warpath truth. You do not command what you do not submit to. Stay under Jesus. Stand in His name. Speak Scripture. Refuse fear. The enemy has to bow to the name of Jesus - not to yours, not to your feelings. Keep it simple. Keep it biblical.
Pray
Jesus, I stand under You so I can stand in Your authority. Any ground I have handed over, I take back in Your name. Any attack aimed at me, I refuse in Your name. You're Lord. Amen.
Sit with this
No wrong answers. Take your time. Answer honestly, out loud if you can.
01
Where have you been begging for what Jesus has already given?
02
Where are you refusing to submit to God and still expecting authority?
03
What lie or attack do you need to resist by name this week?
Before you walk on
Today: name one attack out loud - "In the name of Jesus, this fear/lust/anger has no place here." Then follow it with a specific act of obedience.
