Lesson 8 · 10 min
Living by Faith
Trust when you cannot yet see.
Overview
Theme: Trust.
Key Scripture. "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." - Hebrews 11:1
What this step is about. Faith is not a feeling. It is trust in the character of God when the circumstances say otherwise. Living by faith means moving forward on what God has said, even when what you see does not line up yet.
Why it matters. You will not always feel God. You will not always see the path. If your obedience depends on your mood or your understanding, you will stall out at the first hard turn. Faith is what keeps a man walking when the ground is dark. Without it, Hebrews 11:6 says, it is impossible to please Him.
What Scripture says. Hebrews 11 is a list of ordinary people who trusted God against the odds - Abraham going without knowing where, Moses leaving Egypt, Rahab hiding spies. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says we walk by faith and not by sight. Faith is not blind. It has the character and Word of God to stand on. It is just not driven by circumstance.
Warpath truth. Faith is a muscle. It grows by use. Start where you are. Trust God with the next honest step - not the whole staircase. Feelings will follow obedience more often than they lead it.
Pray
Father, I trust You. Where my sight is limited, help me lean on Your character. Give me the courage to take the next step even when I cannot see the one after it. Amen.
Sit with this
No wrong answers. Take your time. Answer honestly, out loud if you can.
01
Where in your life are you waiting to feel something before you obey?
02
What has God clearly asked of you that you have been calling "hard" instead of "clear"?
03
What would faith look like today - not next month?
Before you walk on
Today: name one obedience you have been delaying and take the smallest concrete step toward it before the day ends.
