Foundations of Faith

Lesson 4 · 10 min

Reading the Bible

How to open Scripture and let it read you.

Overview

Theme: Truth.

Key Scripture. "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness." - 2 Timothy 3:16

What this step is about. The Bible is not a self-help book, a rulebook, or a history textbook. It is God speaking. It is how He tells you who He is, who you are, what He has done, and what He is doing. Reading it is not an academic exercise. It is how a son learns his Father''s voice.

Why it matters. You will hear a hundred voices today. Your own thoughts. Culture. Feelings. Old wounds. The enemy. Without Scripture, you will pick a voice and call it truth. With Scripture, you have something outside yourself to stand on when everything inside you is shifting.

What Scripture says. Psalm 119:105 - "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Joshua 1:8 says meditate on it day and night. Jesus, in the wilderness, answered every attack with "It is written." Hebrews 4:12 calls it living and active. This is not dead ink. It cuts, heals, and steadies.

Warpath truth. You do not need to read the whole Bible in a month. You need to actually read it. Slowly. Honestly. Ask what it says, what it means, what it demands. Then obey it. Reading without doing is just noise.

Pray

Father, open Your Word to me. Open me to Your Word. Cut what needs cutting. Heal what needs healing. Speak, and I will listen. Amen.

Sit with this

No wrong answers. Take your time. Answer honestly, out loud if you can.

  1. 01

What has kept the Bible from being a real part of your life?

  2. 02

Where do you actually go for truth when life gets heavy?

  3. 03

What is one small, honest reading rhythm you can start this week?

Before you walk on

Today: read one chapter - the Gospel of John, chapter 1 - and write down one sentence God is saying to you in it.
