Spiritual Warfare

Lesson 7 · 10 min

Spiritual Disciplines

The habits that keep you steady.

Overview

Theme: Training.

Key Scripture. "Train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way." - 1 Timothy 4:7-8

What this step is about. Spiritual disciplines are the training a soldier does before the fight. Prayer. Scripture. Fasting. Silence. Worship. Confession. Rest. Generosity. They are not how you earn God''s favor. They are how you position yourself to receive what He has already given.

Why it matters. No one goes into a real fight without training. You will not rise to the occasion. You will fall to your level of preparation. The daily disciplines are boring compared to the battle - and they are exactly what will keep you standing when the battle comes.

What Scripture says. Jesus practiced these disciplines Himself - He rose early to pray (Mark 1:35), He fasted (Matthew 4), He withdrew to lonely places (Luke 5:16). 1 Corinthians 9:27 - Paul disciplined his body and kept it under control. Hebrews 5:14 - the mature are those who by constant practice have their powers trained.

Warpath truth. Start small and stay consistent. Ten minutes done every day beats an hour you keep meaning to give. Pick two disciplines to build this month. Do them at the same time each day. Let boredom happen. Boredom is often the beginning of depth.

Pray

Father, train me. I do not want to be a fair-weather soldier. Build in me the daily habits that keep me close to You. Amen.
