The War Within

Amends

Integrity · Restoration & Practice

Overview

Warpath Step 9. We made direct amends to those we have harmed wherever possible, except when doing so would injure them, others, or ourselves.

Theme: Integrity.

Key Scripture. "So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift." - Matthew 5:23-24

What this step is about. Amends is not an apology. Apologies are words. Amends is the action that repairs the damage where repair is possible. You go directly. You own it fully. You do not explain it away.

Why it matters. You cannot walk in freedom while dragging unmade wrongs behind you. This step is where the new life becomes visible. It is also where pride dies loudest - because you are not in control of how it is received, and you do not need to be.

What Scripture says. Zacchaeus met Jesus and immediately went to make it right, four times over (Luke 19:8). Romans 12:18 - as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Numbers 5:6-7 - confess the sin and restore the loss.

Warpath truth. Do not do this alone. Talk with your sponsor, pastor, or a trusted brother first. Wisdom before action. If a direct amend would cause more harm than healing, seek counsel and find another way to make it right. Do not use 'it might hurt them' as an excuse to avoid the amends you owe. The goal is not to feel forgiven. The goal is to walk clean.

Pray

Jesus, give me humility to make right what I broke, wisdom to know how, and courage to actually go. Not to earn forgiveness. To live in freedom. Amen.

Sit with this

No wrong answers. Take your time. Answer honestly, out loud if you can.

  1. 01

Who is on your amends list, and what has kept you from starting?

  2. 02

Where would a direct amend cause more harm than healing?

  3. 03

What does integrity look like for you in this season?

Before you walk on
