The War Within

Step 8 · ~30 min

Forgiveness

Grace · Forgiveness & Release

Overview

Warpath Step 8. Through an act of faith, we forgave those who harmed us by releasing them into God's hands, choosing grace over bondage, and allowing forgiveness to free our hearts as we receive God's forgiveness for ourselves.

Theme: Grace.

Key Scripture. "Bear with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgive each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive." - Colossians 3:13

What this step is about. Step 8 is an act of the will, not an emotion. You release the people who hurt you into the hands of the only Judge who can handle them rightly. You stop being the warden of their prison - because you were the one in the cell.

Why it matters. Unforgiveness is a poison you drink hoping the other person dies. It rots your prayers, your marriage, your sleep, and your walk with God. Jesus tied our forgiveness to our willingness to forgive (Matthew 6:14-15) - not because grace has a price, but because a hard heart cannot receive what it will not give.

What Scripture says. Ephesians 4:31-32 - put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and slander. Forgive one another as God in Christ forgave you. Romans 12:19 - vengeance belongs to the Lord. Luke 23:34 - from the cross, Jesus forgave the men driving the nails.

Warpath truth. Forgiveness is not saying it was okay. It was not. Forgiveness is saying, 'I am done carrying this. I hand them to You.' You may have to say it out loud every day for a season before your feelings catch up. Say it anyway. That is faith.

Pray

Father, I release the ones who wounded me. I choose to forgive because You forgave me. Heal what they broke. Take back the ground bitterness held. Amen.

Sit with this

No wrong answers. Take your time. Answer honestly, out loud if you can.

  1. 01

Who do you need to release into God's hands today?

  2. 02

Where have you refused to receive God's forgiveness for yourself?

  3. 03

What would freedom from this bitterness open up in you?

Before you walk on

Today: write one name. Forgive out loud, by name, before God. Come back tomorrow and do it again if the feeling has not caught up. Keep going.
