Spiritual Warfare

Lesson 5 · 10 min

Strongholds

Tearing down what has held on too long.

Overview

Theme: Freedom.

Key Scripture. "The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds." - 2 Corinthians 10:4

What this step is about. A stronghold is a place in your life where sin, lies, or old wounds have dug in and built walls. Habits. Addictions. Bitterness. Fear. Patterns you keep meaning to break and cannot. God did not save you to leave the walls up. He saved you to tear them down.

Why it matters. As long as the stronghold stands, the enemy has a bunker inside your life. You can polish the outside all you want. If the inside is fortified against God, you will keep circling the same battle. Freedom is not a mood. It is the tearing down of what has held on too long.

What Scripture says. 2 Corinthians 10 says our weapons have divine power - they destroy strongholds, arguments, and lofty opinions raised against the knowledge of God. Ephesians 4:27 warns against giving the devil a foothold. What starts as a foothold, if not addressed, becomes a stronghold. Jesus said in John 8:36, whom the Son sets free is free indeed. That is not a slogan. That is inheritance.

Warpath truth. Strongholds do not fall by trying harder. They fall by honesty, confession, Scripture, prayer, and community. You will need help. Get it. Name the specific stronghold. Ask a trusted person to stand with you. Cut off access. Fight with everything God has given.

Pray

Father, tear it down. I am done managing what You want to destroy. Give me humility to name it, courage to confess it, and community to fight it. Set me free where I have been bound. Amen.

Sit with this

No wrong answers. Take your time. Answer honestly, out loud if you can.

  1. 01

What stronghold in your life have you been managing instead of tearing down?

  2. 02

What have you been unwilling to give up that keeps it standing?

  3. 03

Who needs to know about it in order for it to fall?

Before you walk on

Today: name one stronghold out loud to God and to one trusted person. Take one concrete step to cut off its access.
